As of February 21st, SB1523 and SB1638 did not pass out of committee and are officially dead.
This is an important milestone.
A big thank you to Benny Vanatta whose hard work on this resulted in an early death.
Also, for everyone of YOU who contacted senators - a huge pat on the back!! We learned that we DO have support in the legislature.
While we feel like ringing bells over this, keep in mind that the session is not over. We will be watching out for amendments which could be added to other existing bills. This is always a hazard to be aware of. So, that means keep up with your legislators and let them know who you are (in a GOOD way, of course).
Ways to do that:
Send a thank you note to your senators for their support of Nurse Practitioners on this issue.
If you want to donate to their campaigns (a small amount is fine), do so and LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE AN NP!
Check the website often, we will post an action alert if another matter needs our attention.
SB 1638: if passed, it would have put APNS under Board of Medicine with supervised practice, like PAs.
SB 1523: if passed, it would have mandated Oklahoma physician ownership and control, and imposed additional restrictions on retail clinics. As you know, retail clinics primarily utilize NPs.
